The Place Before The Father
In his book The Return of the Prodigal Son , Henri Nouwen talks about this place of brokenness where the son falls on his kneed before his father. He says, "It's a place where I am held safe in the embrace of an all-loving Father who calls me by name and says, 'You are my beloved son, on you my favor rests.' It's a place where I can taste the joy and the peace that are not of this world." He goes on to say that this is a place he always knew was there but had not been able to enter that place and truly live there. We like to stand next to that place, talk about it, teach about it, tell others how important it is that they find a way to live in that place. We rejoice when we see people find the love on the father in that place, but we can continue to avoid living there ourselves. Why do we do that?
