Flashy Cards II

Now-a-days you don't have to look very hard to find advertisements for churches. We have everything from flashy cards in coffee shops, to little signs by the road, to TV commercials. I'm not saying advertising is necessarily wrong, but I know it is only a shadow of what God intended for His church. I think its just one example of how we try to live without the power God has given to His church. Anytime we limit or deny the power of the HS we are relegated to live in the realm of our own ability.

We can clearly see the HS working through the church in the book of Acts. We live in a very different time and culture today, but I know our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever and He still desires to have the life changing power of His Spirit flow through His people. I read an amazing account of the Holy Spirit drawing people to the church in Acts 3. After Pentecost, Peter and John, who are full of the Spirit, encounter a lame man in need. When they obey the Spirit and stop to speak to this man, a miracle takes place and a life is changed. Then we see how only the Holy Spirit can draw all men to Christ as 5,000 men are added to the church because of this one changed life. This passage say all the people were filled with wonder and amazement and came running to Christ. Now thats how the Holy Spirit advertises!

"When all the people saw him walking and praising God, they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him. Peter speaks to the onlookers while the beggar held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade. " Acts 3:9-11
