The Greatest Thing in the World - 05

Henry Drummond says the business of our lives is to have the characteristics of love fitted into our character. He says, "the constituents of this great character are only to be built up by ceaseless practice." The act of learning love and receiving love can only complete the work within us as we practice love. In other words, we must live what we learn and give what we have received. We will not be fitted into the character of Christ simply by receiving love or knowing truth. Practice completes the process and gives birth within us to the likeness of Jesus Christ. We cannot give our own concept of truth. We cannot give secondhand truth. We cannot share love that we have not received. We must first hear it and receive it for ourselves. We must take possession of it and believe it for ourselves. Then we can participate in the creative work of love by putting it into practice.
