The living water - 03

Jesus promises that the one who would come to him and believe will have rivers of living water flowing through their life. The condition for the promise given to those who come is that they must believe. Believing is being open to receive, to step forward and come to a place where we can receive what Jesus has for us. He is the living water that fills us. His Spirit fills and overflows from our life. Oswald Chambers says. “Out of him shall escape everything he has received.” * The living, healing, life giving water that we have received will flow from our inner most being bringing to others blessing and love and forgiveness and belonging. Chambers goes on to say that "we cannot measure our lives by spiritual success, but only by what God pours through us." It is not through our own efforts or spiritual maturity that we receive from the Lord. Jesus asks only that we believe and that we come to him. What an amazing and immensely simple concept this is. It seems like one of the most complicated and difficult things the church does is discipleship. We have countless programs, systems, and book on the subject, yet we still struggle to get it done. Can we just come to Jesus with an open heart believing that we will receive? When that happens, the living water will flow from our lives like streams in the dessert.

John 7:37-39 (ESV) On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
