Truth requires selflessness

Seeking truth will require you to give up many things to receive from God. Helping others discover truth will also require you to give up things. You need to give up the desire to say what you want to say. You need to give up the right to not be offended. You need to let go of the desire to defend yourself. You need to let go of wanting to always correct people when they are clearly wrong. You need to sit and listen to people go on and on while you let go of your right to respond.

You need to let all that go because one day they will ask what you think. One day they will invite you into their life in some way because you earned that right by respecting them and listening and waiting patiently. Then you will speak what the Holy Spirit has given you to say.

Luke 12:11-12 says, "And when they bring you before the synagogues and the rulers and the authorities, do not be anxious about how you should defend yourself or what you should say, for the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say.” How amazing this is! What an empowering and liberating promise. What would you give up to have that moment in that appointed hour when you open your mouth and speak the Holy Spirit's words? All you need to give to experience that promise is yourself.
