Missing the mark

Sin is defined as missing the mark. What is the mark we're missing? All the things God intends for the souls he has created both in a cosmic and personal sense. Self is always what pulls the arrow off its mark. We chose self at the expense of the eternal. We trade the joy and peace of the kingdom of God for fleeting moments of self-satisfaction. Many do not believe in God or know him in any significant way, they are making the trade none the less.

For me, this transaction is deeply personal. Giving in to self pulls at the core of my being. It contends with my purpose and true identity in Crist. It feels like paddling up stream when the current gets stronger and stops your progress. No matter how hard you try, you will never move closer to the mark when self is in control.

There is only one way to move forward again. It's the way of the cross. Take self back to the cross and lay it at Jessus feet. Thats the only way you will ever feel the power of the resurrection and the joy of new life. It doesn't matter how difficult the surrender. It doesn't matter if you truly understand or know what steps to take or know how to get your life right again. It just matters that you take it all to Jesus.
