Truth is progressive - Evolution
Evolution is probably not a word you would expect to hear in a discipleship blog, but I believe in evolution in the context of truth. The truth I possess today is not the same truth I knew and received ten years ago or forty years ago. The truth, as a definition of God himself will never change or evolve. He was and is and always will be. My understanding of truth, my capacity to understand truth, and my ability to live in that understanding will and should certainly evolve over time.
Follett says, "There is a continual progressive evolution in spiritual living moving up from one plain of discovery and life onto another spiritual plain of discovery and life..." Thats an old Pentecost way of saying, if we're not evolving, we're not growing.
It starts with receiving just one seed of truth, allowing it to fall into and open heart and mind. There it will die and bring forth new life and a new connection to truth. From there, our capacity to receive and understand more truth keeps growing. It's a progressive spiral upward closer to truth and closer to who God intends us to be.
I'm often amazed at how profoundly simple the foundational truths of existence can be when the Holy Spirit presents them to an open mind that is ready to listen.
