Trusting in the Lord

I was listening to a message by John Piper on the biography of George Mueller . This man's life is convicting and challenging. What a life of faith and trust in the Lord. What would it be like for us to trust in the Lord to the extent that we never ask for money, we never borrow any money, we never take a salary, but we simply trust in the Lord. Is God not great enough, does He not have enough resources available to sustain His people? What is it like to live completely dependent on our Loving God through faith and prayer? I know the Lord desperately want to see his people take Him at his Word and step into a place of spiritual abundance where we receive the fruit of the Word into our life and let it flow out from our life to the world around us. I'll be honest, that kind of trust is a little scary, but deep in my heart I would love to live in that place. This world and all its systems and dependencies can entangle us and slow us down and make us unfruitful and ineffecti

Would the Real Christian Please Stand?

I watched Rick Warren's interviews Saturday night with McCain and Obama. I only saw part of his questions to Obama so I still need to see the rest of the video clips . I think Rick Warren asked good question, intelligently and fairly, but whats the use if all the answers are crafted so as to not take a definite stand on anything or not offend any potential voters. I watched as Obama clearly struggled to carefully find the right words for every answer. It must be hard to never just say what you feel, or what you believe to be true, but have to filter every word and consider all the ramifications to what you say before saying it. It must be hard to try to please 300 million people at the same time. I honestly felt bad for Obama because I don't think he knows the joy and fulfillment of being a real "Christian" or a true Christ follower. There are many people in this country who can say they are a Christian and not have to back it up with real Kingdom fruit in the

The Power of Deception

I've been feeling somewhat uneasy lately over the state of our world today. Not a fearful feeling, but a feeling that things are changing and God is allowing it as He always does for our good. There is ongoing and increasing conflict in the Middle East as well as Iraq and Iran. There is conflict now with Russia which I feel will get worse, and I believe there are issues with China. I used to see skirmishes around the world taking place with religious radicals somewhere who were doing the equivalent of throwing stones at tanks, but now we have Iran, Russian, and China out there who do not like us. These are superpowers and are capable of throwing a lot more than rocks. I am not taking a pessimistic view on our world today because I know God is the ruler of kings and kingdoms and He will have His way. I do believe though that God's people need to wake up and take on a warrior spirit to combat the power of deception coming from the enemy to destroy this world and rob God of

The Power of Authority and Submission

In the past few years, I have increasing learned the power of submitting myself not only to God's authority over my life, but also of those leaders that God has placed me under. I am always amazed at how submission to those in authority over us, opens up blessings from the Lord in a greater capacity. It also opens a conduit for the Holy Spirit to pour into your life more wisdom, creativity, and favor. It seems like all Jesus teaching on denying self and loosing our life to save it is correct in spite of what the world and our own self tells us. I read Mark Driscoll's blog today A Conversation with Wayne Grudem , and I thought his responses to the questions he was asked were right on. A refusal to submit oneself to the authority of the scriptures and to those godly men and women over them is certainly a big problem in our culture today. We need to model submission to authority to those around us more than ever. I like Dr. Grudem's summary at the end that he aspires fo

The Changing Church

I read a good article, Networked Structures: Liquid v. Solid , concerning the sociological state of our church today. As I have said before, the church as we know it is certainly changing and I think that's a good thing. Returning to a more fluid, New Testament definition of church is exciting to me. I have never felt the problem is that we are out of touch with society as much as it is that we are out of touch with Christ. We identify with a local church which in our minds makes us a member of the body of Christ instead of identifying with Christ which brings us into His body and therefore leads us to a local body of believers. The problem is not our relevance to the culture, but our lack of a fluid nature that enables us to be Christ to a dying world. As I look at the church today, I do not think the solid church is capable of adapting to a liquid, mission model. When I look at those within the church, they are largely unequipped, and unable to change their mindset. They
