No Backup Plan

Some key points for me from Chapter 2 of "In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day" Lion chasers in the toughest circumstances because they know that impossible odds set the stage for amazing miricles. How you think of God will determine who you become. The more we grow, the bigger God should get. And the bigger God gets, the smaller our lions become. The reality is that nothing is too difficult for God. I've really been challenged about how much I limit God because I act on my perceptions of the circumstance and not His. We like to think God is number one in our life and we say he is everything, but in reality, the God who we confine to our own thoughts and abilities is a very small God. Learning how to step back and let God take over your thoughts and emotions and even the outcome of every moment is a difficult, but necessary lesson to learn. My wife and I are facing a big decision and we're moving forward with what God has spoken to us and what those in spiritual aut

Becoming a Lion Chaser

I started a new journey yesterday. I felt the Lord encouraging me to let Him take me to a new place in my personal time alone with Him. Honestly, my first reaction to that was fear of the unknown, and a profound sense of inadaquacy, but I pressed forward anyway and asked the Lord where I should begin, and the answer was with David's mighty men. Then I walked into a book store and the first book I saw was " In a Pit With a Lion On a Snowy Day " by Mark Batterson. So I started reading the book last night after I went through the accounts of David's mighty men in II Sam 23. Benaiah was one tough warrior who tracked a lion down and followed it into a pit on a snowy day and killed it. We need to learn how to allow the Lord to lead us every moment of every day. His methods and timing may seem wrong to us many times and definitely uncomfortable, but He is trustworthy and true. Suspend your fears, say no to the lies and keep going even though everything in the natural tells

Facing the River

Life is full of times when like Isreal, we stand face to face with a raging river. What do we do? The voice and promises of God are calling us forward, but comfort and familiarity are calling us back. What did Moses do? He sought the council of others and listened to their voice and went back, not forward. What did Joshua do? He sough the Lord, prepared himself and his people, and went forward, not back. What are you going to do? Whose voice are you listening to? This life is a journey in Christ. Seek Him. Follow Him. Trust Him. Don't turn back. Don't make the decision to go back and go around the wilderness yet another time. These are the moments that define your life and position you to receive the portion God has set aside for your life. He is a good God and He has good things in store for His people. Step forward and give yourself, deny yourself, and follow Him.

The Fullness of Jesus

Paul finishes one of the greatest chapters in the Bible, Eph 1, with Jesus. He is our all in all. "And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all." - Eph 1:22-23 We need the fullness of Jesus in our life now more than ever. Latley the Holy Spirit has been telling me over and over again that everything is about Jesus. Every thought I have, every breath I take should be devoted wholly to Him. I think making Jesus our all in all is the one things we avoid the most in our flesh. We go around it with busyness, Christianity, ministry, new paradign shifts. new movements and methods, but at the end of the day, we must be doing it for Him. The whole of our life must come under His subjection, and laid at His feet. Then He will come and fill our heart, mind, soul, life, ministry, relationships, and our everything. I want that more than ever. I can feel the deep

Going Green

Just thought everyone would like to get a look at my new, long awaited John Deere lawn tractor. Thats right, after 20 years of fixing, patching, ghetto rigging, making due, borrowing my brother's mower, and a lot of money in repairs, I can now move on.

Has anyone seen my apostolic, emergant, evangelical, missional, networked, culturally relevant Jesus?

We can make following Christ be about so many things. We come up with so many good ideas, and write books, and hold seminars, with famous people who call themselves "Author, Speaker, and Teacher Dr. So and so". We come up with so many lables for new movements, and a lot of times I think we just complicate things. I know sometimes those terms help clarify or define our objectives for others, or bring it all into perspective for people, but really, I think our need to define reveals a lack of trust and abiding within us. I get overwhelmed with all that, and I get tired of trying to keep up with it all and buy more books which I will only read half of because I get the point in the first chapter. I'd rather forge the way into new territory with God, instead of reading about people who say they are doing it. Like when Winston Churchill was asked if history would portray him favorably, he said "Yes because I am writing it". Just some thoughts, but I was wonderi

Here is a very cool Rob Bell Nooma video I found. If don't have a relentless passion in your heart to serve and follow Jesus, then I hope this inspires you to let your light shine like this, and let His love flow from your life.

Spiritual Warfare

Image
What is spiritual warfare? We talk a lot about it, but doing it successfully is another matter. Here are a few of my thoughts. I welcome yours as well. 1. Don't go into battle without your armor 2. You never know when a battle will come up so always have your armor on and be ready 3. Un-confessed sin in your life doesn't do you or anyone else any good 4. You can't think your way theologically through the battle at 2:00 AM 5. The battle is usually won or lost before you ever get there 6. There is strength in numbers 7. A warriors heart is developed in the intimate times with the Master 8. Contend against the spirit realm, not against circumstances or people 9. Resistance is not futile 10. Have Faith. You will not fall. The Holy Spirit will raise up a standard. 11. There is only one way to find success - obedience 12. Know the Word, Know the Word, Know the Word 13. Pray, Pray, Pray 14. It is not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit says the Lord 15. There is

Man, where have I been. Sorry to all my faithful blog readers (That would probably be just my wife :). I've been busy with work conferences, and teaching Sunday, then Wednesday, then Sunday again. Lots of work, but I love being in the flow and forcing myself to stay in a place where I am dependent on the Lord to speak something in my life so I can let it flow out to others. I came across this Rob Bell Nooma video this morning and it really sums up what I've been hearing lately from the Lord. I am in desperate need for Jesus Christ to come and rescue me from myself every moment of everyday. That's a process and we all need to wholeheartedly commit our self to the journey. Deny your self, take up your cross and follow Christ. Take a look at this video.

I Need to S.T.O.P. Me

I'm posting the link for the message at LIFE House Church Bethel this past Sunday. Pastor Terry really hit the mark with a timely message that we all need to hear and walk out in our lives. I Need to S.T.O.P. Me
