A Poverty Spirit

Image
http://www.life.com/image/50648176 I've posted this excerpt from Graham Cooke before, but its more relevent now that ever. The church has not obeyed the prompting of the Holy Spirit. We have received the revelation, we have heard the voice of the Lord and we stand still on the bank of the rivers of impossibilities refusing to cross over. We do not believe our God will meet us there and take us through to a new place. Instead we setup camp and constantly redefine the mission God has given. Do you know things will never be the same when you step into the river? Do you know you need to release your life and your own will? You fear to pay that price, but do you know it will be worth it? The wonders and dreams God has in store for His people cannot be fathomed. He is waiting for us to enter into those spaces of release and emptiness so that He can fill our lives with the most precious gift He has to give - Jesus Christ.  As for me and my house, we are leaving the camp and setting

"The Journey: A Thinking Persons Quest for Meaning"

Take time to listen to this  Veritas Forum message from Dr. Os Guinness. More and more I am convinced man must approach God wholeheartedly in every area of life. If we consider  intellectual pursuits to be secondary, then we will miss discovering new aspects of God. Hope this challenges you. " Nothing is beyond challenge " - Os Guinness

Christmas 2010

I was thinking about Jesus earthly father Joseph as our family watch the Nativity movie yesterday. I think its difficult for us to comprehend the hardships this couple faced in their society. Joseph risked his life, his good name, his livelihood, and much more to embrace this plan of God for his life. The Bible does not say much about Joseph, but I think we can see that he was troubled by Mary's pregnancy and struggled with the decision he was faced with. We can also see that Joseph set aside those fears and obeyed the word of the Lord spoken by the angel. I believe Joseph cherished Mary and sought God daily for wisdom and guidance. Jesus was divine, but also human.  He needed to learn and grow spiritually as we all do. What an example Joseph set for his family lay down his life for the will of the Father. I wonder if Jesus had Joseph in mind as He spoke to His disciples about loosing your life to find it, or taking up your cross to be a disciple?  I wonder Jesus thought of his e

Christ Centered Relationships

Image
Be careful who you associate with. God created us to be social people and live together, fellowshiping, and encouraging one another, but He also intended that He be at the center of those relationships. Most believers today desparately need better discernment and ears to hear the voice of the Spirit.  They are unable to sense and avoid the natural, self centered reliance that defines most people. The voice of the Holy Spirit is foreign to most believers and that needs to change. If Christ is not at the center of our relationships, then they will not be productive and are often destructive as we form unhealthy dependancies built upon our fears and insecurities. I am not saying we should not hang out or associate with people who don't know Jesus, because I think we should, but we better be Jesus to them even in our imperfect flawed attempts. I'm not taking about those kinds of encounters. Seek out people who are passionate about Jesus. Find people with vision and focus and lear

Our Silent Savior

Image
"He was oppressed and afflicted,   yet he did not open his mouth ;  he was led like a lamb to the slaughter,   and as a sheep before its shearers is silent,   so he did not open his mouth." Is. 53:7 The entire suffering servant passage in Is 53 is very moving when we consider what our Lord endured for us, but I think it is full of characteristics of Jesus that we can learn from. One that I struggle with is that fact that He stood silently and did not speak in His own defense. If ever there was someone who was being wronged and had a right to stand up and defend themselves it was Jesus. I imagine Him standing there for me, thinking of me, and holding fast to the course set before Him because He loves me. He did not give in to the temptation to abort the plan the Father had set in motion just to save Himself. He stood there confidently as the approval and love of the Father lifted His heart. Let the world and the enemy speak their lies and threat. Let them shout at the heave

The Fight to Focus

Image
Spiritual battles are won or lost depending on where we focus. All it takes to win is to focus your full attention on Jesus. Let the wind blow and the earth shake all it wants. Let the people around you say what they want. Let the circumstances be what they may, but when we focus on Jesus, the victory comes. For me the fight is to get to that place. I often feel overwhelmed with my mind in chaos, trying to gain control, trying to make sense of the situation or fix the problems. We will never succeed there. In my stuborness I keep trying to fix situations I can't fix. I keep trying to gain control over something I  have no control over. When I try to fight there, the level of frustration in my life will escalate until it reaches a breaking point. When I finaly let go, give in, and release the thing I am gripping so tightly, I find peace. A friend and brother in Christ encouraged me to take authority over some situations in my life and I thought how I was desparately trying to do
